As a mother, or a mother-to-be, how often do you look after yourself – physically and emotionally?
I suspect not very often. And that’s what ‘Honouring Motherhood’ events are for.
These unique, nurturing sessions enable you to gather with friends and family to celebrate the highs and lows of pregnancy and motherhood, whether you’re mothering a bump, a baby or a teenager.
We will create a beautiful space for you to relax together, taking time out to support each other while we provide a range of massage and reflexology treatments.
Beyond the baby shower
Babies and new mums don’t need that much stuff, but they do need an awful lot of love and support. Honour your friend in her last weeks of pregnancy by gathering a group of her friends and marking this important time. Or bring together friends from your antenatal group to support each other as you get ready to welcome your babies.
A circle of women
You might have snatched conversations with friends over coffee and playdates, or on a rare night out. But how often do you remind each other that what you do, every single day, is a big deal?
There’s something very special about coming together with the specific purpose of honouring your own needs. Giving yourself permission to share the joys, frustrations and tears of motherhood with a trusted group.
This is what Honouring Motherhood’s for. Yes, you get some lovely reflexology, massage or holistic facial. But by taking this time to nurture yourself with your friends, you get so much more than that. You’ll leave feeling relaxed, uplifted and strengthened.
How does it work?
Honouring Motherhood events are designed for groups of 6-10 women. We usually take bookings at least three weeks in advance, to allow planning time, but it’s still worth asking if you want something at short notice! Contact us with any questions.
Bespoke packages
These events can be booked for daytime or evening, and we’ll stay with you for around 3 hours. They include:
Preparing the space
We can bring bunting, flowers, candles, cushions and throws to set a relaxed tone, and we’ll also work with you to personalise the room for your particular group
Treatments
Each member of the group can book in advance to receive at least one of the following:
Nurturing activities
You may wish to create something together: a scrapbook, artwork or simple jewellery, herbal teas, massage oils. You may want to create candle blessings to take away. We can talk you through the options.
Sharing thoughts and stories
We’ll spend a lot of time quietly getting on with the treatments, letting you talk in your circle and use the time however suits you best – we don’t want to dictate (though we’re very happy to suggest themes or prompts for conversation if that’s helpful!).
Sharing food
We’ll provide drinks and cake. We also encourage you to bring and share your own food.
Once you book, we’ll work alongside you to plan your event – offering ideas of activities, decorations, readings, food – as much or as little as you like. We can also help you arrange extras from trusted professionals, such as handmade gifts, photography or henna artistry if that’s what you want.
We also offer everyone who’s attended a bespoke event 10% off treatments with Renni and Michaela for three months after your Honouring Motherhood date.
We tailor our packages to each group, so don’t worry if you have any questions or want to do things a bit differently. Just contact us for an informal chat or to make a booking.
Once you book we’ll send through a menu so we can start planning the details of your event.
Packages start from £30 per person, for groups of 6-10 women.
Please do email [email protected] with any questions or bookings!
Frequently Asked Questions:
Isn’t this just a group pamper session?
There are two answers to this. The short answer is: it can be if that’s what you want! The more honest answer is that in our years as complementary therapists we’ve noticed that motherhood can be a lonely journey, so we hope that Honouring Motherhood events can also be safe spaces to be open about the good, bad, messy, crazy times we all have as mothers. While having fun with friends, receiving relaxing treatments from very experienced therapists and eating cake, of course.
I want to organize a baby shower for my friend, can you help with that?
We think an Honouring Motherhood event would be a great way to celebrate with a mum-to-be or a new mum, and let her know she’s loved and supported at this highly charged time. Our events focus less on gifts for the baby and more on nurturing the mum with her friends around her (though we’re not going to stop you bringing gifts too!). If that’s the sort of ‘baby shower’ you had in mind, we’d love to help! We have lots of ideas on how you can support the new mum, too.
Why would I book an Honouring Motherhood event?
We want Honouring Motherhood events to nurture you and remind you of the fantastic work you do as a mother – day in, day out. So there are 1001 reasons you might want to take time out with your friends to look after yourself, but here are a few:
Where do the events take place?
Most people like to host a session at home, so we come to you. If you prefer to gather in a different venue, Renni has a lovely space in her home, or we can book a central venue by arrangement.
How do we shape up our event?
Once you’ve made a booking, we’ll work in partnership with you to create the event that’s perfect for your group. We’ll send through a booking form so you can pick the activities and treatments you’re interested in, and we’ll work with you to get the tone right: some people want a very loose, chatty flow to the session, while others like the chance to do short group ceremonies to strengthen their circle and bond. Most like a bit of both. We’ll go through all the options with you.
You can also bring as much of your own stuff (and by ‘stuff’ we mean items to decorate the space, skills and activities to share, food, thoughts etc!) as you wish to the planning and doing, or you can choose to leave it mostly in our hands.
